Color Trends in Kitchens

As we noted in a previous blog article, color trends in kitchens are all about bringing in new hues and being creative with color. The stark white and traditional neutrals are giving way to bolder color choices in kitchens—allowing cabinetry, backsplashes, and countertops to stand out in fresh ways.

Bringing personality and vibrancy to your Hudson Valley kitchen

With kitchens extending beyond cooking spaces to being entertaining spaces, the overarching trend in kitchen colors is about adding personality (including your choice of wall paint). The National Kitchen & Bath Association’s 2024 Kitchen Trends report states that the kitchen’s “key color goal will be to create a sense of nature, calm, and harmony.” But of course, what people perceive as nature, calm, and harmony is highly subjective. Here’s a look at some color trends in kitchens we’re sharing with our Hudson Valley customers.

Two tone kitchen

The new hues

This year, we’re showing customers how to put the bold in their kitchen colors with blues and earthy greens. These sophisticated colors—which run the spectrum of hues from blue-grey to deep navy, muted green to forest green—provide a dramatic look and can be blended with white or neutral cabinetry or countertops.

Two tones rock

This brings us to the “mix & match” concept of kitchen color trends. Two-tone cabinetry is lively and vibrant and enables you to extend the color palette in your Hudson Valley kitchen. Think about introducing a contrasting color, light and dark tones, or complementary shades for an exciting décor dimension.

Splish-splash that color

Adding a splash of color instead is another trend in kitchen remodels and new construction. Our designers can show you how your new kitchen will look if you install an island, a single cabinet, or pantry door in a contrasting color, or adding playful pops of color to a tile backsplash in brights like yellow, pink, or blue.

Warm up

If you’re looking for a more sedate but updated color palette in your Hudson Valley kitchen, soft colors inspired by nature will add warmth and charm to your cabinetry, countertops, or tiles. Beiges and taupe, greige (grey-beige), clay, caramel, and terracotta are versatile neutrals that create a comfortable ambiance—and they provide a soothing canvas for design elements such as eye-catching cabinet hardware or a dynamic-colored backsplash that delivers a striking wow factor.

Timeless black

If you favor darker kitchen colors, consider black cabinets in a matte finish for a sophisticated look, embellished with metallic hardware for drama. Black also goes well with natural wood accents.

Colorful walls

Painting your kitchen walls a complementary or contrasting color to your cabinetry or countertops creates instant elegance. Large, open kitchens can accommodate blues and greens, rich greys or browns, deep peach, and other darker colors that help white or soft-colored cabinetry stand out—or match the cabinetry color for a monochromatic look. Smaller kitchens will do better with soft colors and shades of white—but don’t be afraid to add a tint for visual interest.

Don’t forget the appliances!

Take your creativity a few steps further with color-matched (or contrasting) appliances. Some manufacturers make kitchen appliances in festive, retro pastels and others in darker contemporary colors.
